College football action on Saturday often produced thriller scripts, as Alabama edged Georgia 34-31 and Texas freshman quarterback Arch Manning stoked high hopes with his great performance in a dominating win over Kansas State.
Alabama Stuns Georgia at the End
Alabama triumphed over the Bulldogs after one of the more dramatic games last weekend, ending Georgia’s long streak of victories in this year’s premium SEC showdown. Down 24-17 at halftime, the Crimson Tide rallied in the second half, thanks to Jalen Milroe’s 55-yard touchdown pass to Jermaine Burton in the fourth quarter that tied the ballgame.
Alabama won it in the last seconds with a 46-yard field goal from Will Reichard. Alabama’s defense played excellently and finally forced Georgia to turn the ball over on downs when forced to take a last shot to take the lead. Milroe completed 17 of 26 passes for 275 yards and three touchdowns. Beck for Georgia went 27-for-40 with 310 passing yards.
The upsets rocked the SEC, however, boosting Alabama’s much-needed playoff hopes as Alabama head coach Nick Saban said his team’s resilience was what carried them home.
“We fought till the end. Georgia’s a great team, but we believed we could get it done,” Nick Saban said.
Arch Manning Shines in Texas Win
Arch Manning put on a breakout show for Texas in its 41-20 win over Kansas State in Austin. Manning made his second career start and threw for 312 yards, completing three touchdowns, which gave proof of his talent and composure under fire.
Manning also completed several long passes to Xavier Worthy and Jordan Whittington, putting Texas in a comfortable win. It also helped extend plays because of his ability to move. And that kept the Kansas State defense guessing.
Texas head coach Steve Sarkisian expressed that with the comments about Manning’s improved game, “Arch showed today why we’re so excited about his future. He made the right reads, delivered big plays, and managed the game incredibly well.”.
And with this big win, Texas still has a chance to win the Big 12 race and maybe enter the College Football Playoff, all while Manning keeps on shining as the face of that program’s future.
The day’s results will set up a thrilling end to the college football season for both Alabama and Texas.
