New Orleans – The 2024 NFL season got off to a brilliant start with the Kansas City Chiefs swiftly climbing to 34-13 in Monday Night Football action against the New Orleans Saints. This places the Chiefs in the fifth seat and puts them firmly in Upper Rick during their win streak.

The Chiefs offense was highly efficient and supercharged, as reigning MVP Patrick Mahomes guided the way, throwing a stunning 324 yards for three touchdowns. The star quarterback distributed equally to his receivers, including eight catches for 112 yards and a score from Travis Kelce.

Add to it a 45-yard touchdown reception by rookie Zay Flowers, and Mahomes just knew that the Saint’s defense was subject to dissection as the Chiefs maintained control of the game throughout the night.

The Chiefs’ defense was every bit as good, limiting New Orleans quarterback Derek Carr and the Saints’ offense to a meager 13 points. Kansas City’s pass rush was spearheaded by defensive end Chris Jones, who took down Carr three times and forced two turnovers, including a decisive third-quarter interception by safety Justin Reid that effectively killed any New Orleans momentum.

New Orleans seemed unable to get anything going on offense all night, securing only one touchdown—a third-quarter strike from Carr to wide receiver Chris Olave. The Saints’ running game was stifled by the front seven of Kansas City, as Alvin Kamara managed to gain just 46 yards on the ground.

Even playing in front of the rowdy home crowd at the Superdome, the Saints could not equal the level of intensity and precision that Kansas City delivered as they looked like a lousy team going nowhere by losing 27-24 and failing to capitalize on their momentum throughout the season. The Saints fell to 2-3 with the loss.

Mahomes praised his team for being balanced all through the game. “We came in with a great game plan, and everybody executed. We know it’s a long season but staying undefeated is something that we’re proud of.”

The Chiefs face the Los Angeles Chargers next week. Meanwhile, the Saints look to rebound with a crucial divisional matchup for the Atlanta Falcons.

The win keeps the Kansas City squad in the position of being the team to beat as they go about their juggernaut campaign, something shown last night in the big play win over the New England Patriots, and go on a quest to bring another Super Bowl trophy home to their city.
