New York is one of those places, currently facing reality, both their Giants and Jets losing control of what’s meant to be expected from a top-notch season. Thus both teams not being where one would think they could get to leave fans disgruntled, and that would be very bad for each organization.

A Giants Offense in Decline and Low on Leadership:

Once a proud franchise in pursuit of a couple of Super Bowl trophies, it has been a forgettable year for the New York Giants. This was to be their year after a resounding playoff appearance in 2022. Unfortunately, the Giants have spent 2023 drifting from loss to loss. The franchise faced uphill battles one after another since when they extended Daniel Jones’ contract. Striking the franchise throughout its offensive misery were injuries to stars such as running back Saquon Barkley. Today, the Giants have the most ineffective offense in the league.

Defensive issues have also contributed to issues. While head coach Brian Daboll looked good as a first-year head man, his team’s failure to adjust to changing circumstances has put his long-range future in New York in the balance. With only a couple of games left, the prospects for the Giants’ making the playoff seem all but dead, which may mean a major retooling is on the near horizon.

Meanwhile, across the way in MetLife, there are also New York Jets who are witnessing playoff hopes go through the drain. After adding Hall of Famer Aaron Rodgers this off-season, the Super Bowl hopes seemed well within their scope, until Week 1 when he tore an Achilles tendon to end his season.

Zach Wilson, the Jets’ second-year quarterback, cannot step into the Rodgers-shaped hole in the offense. It is anemic and among the worst in the league. Even though the defense has been good, it still hasn’t managed to win a game due to its inability to move the offense.

The Road Ahead

New York football is bleak with the team not doing well from both teams. For the Giants, it’s all about quarterbacking and the coaching, but the Jets are going to face a long, hard road to finding a long-term quarterbacking solution. Fans want to know how much more this city can take with such a drought of football and whether either team can right themselves out of this slide anytime soon.
