Jackson-Hartsfield With 62.7 million tickets handled in 2024, Atlanta International Airport is once again at the top of the global standings. Due to their importance as major hubs for both domestic and international travel, U.S. airports dominate the list.

Jackson-Hartsfield According to aviation analytics company OAG, Atlanta International Airport (ATL) has maintained its status as the busiest airport in the world for the second year in a row.;

ATL’s importance as a significant connecting hub is demonstrated by the astounding 62.7 million airline seats it handled in 2024.

According to OAG Chief Analyst John Grant, “Atlanta’s sustained global leadership reflects the airport’s strength in domestic and international capacity, supported by strong base airlines.”

The dominance of U.S. airports in international aviation is further highlighted by the annual rankings, which gauge airport capacity rather than passenger counts.;

In addition to Atlanta, Dallas/Fort Worth (DFW) came in fifth, followed by Denver International (DEN) in sixth place and Chicago O’Hare (ORD) in tenth place.

Other noteworthy entries are London Heathrow (LHR), Tokyo’s Haneda (HND), and Dubai International (DXB), which came in second.

With an astounding 29% increase in capacity, Shanghai Pudong (PVG) made the largest jump, moving up from 15th in 2023 to ninth in 2024.

Dallas, Denver, and Chicago saw 5-9% rise in capacity last year, while all ten of the leading airports recorded increases. Atlanta’s capacity increased by 2% as well, keeping it ahead in the very competitive U.S. travel industry.

Airports like Atlanta remain at the center of global connectivity thanks to these rankings, which highlight the durability and recovery of international air travel, which is fueled by rising demand and increased airline capacity.
