CinemaCon 2025 got a magical dose of Oz this week as Ariana Grande, Cynthia Erivo, and director Jon M. Chu debuted the first footage from the Wicked sequel, “Wicked: For Good”, which is the second part of Universal’s two-part adaptation of the iconic Broadway musical.
A Sneak Peek That Left the Crowd Spellbound
Inside the Colosseum Theater at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas, theater owners were treated to never-before-seen footage from the film. Joining Chu on stage were Grande (Glinda the Good Witch) and Erivo (Elphaba), along with producer Marc Platt.
“We took a shot and divided Wicked into two parts,” said Platt. “Now we have the privilege of doing it all again with Wicked: For Good in November.”
Erivo reflected on the emotional impact of the first film, joking,
“You cried — don’t lie.”
She added, “We can’t wait to get back on the road again.”
Dorothy Makes Her Debut
The one major moment in the preview was the first appearance of Dorothy. Though her face was kept hidden. Director Jon M. Chu teased her arrival in the film, referencing “when the girl from Kansas drops in.”
The footage also showed golden bricks, flying monkeys, a wedding, and emotional tension between the two witches as they deal with the fallout of their choices from the first movie.
“This is between the Wizard and I,” Erivo’s Elphaba declares.
“Elphaba, they’re coming for you,” warns Grande’s Glinda.
From Broadway to Box Office Gold
Wicked: For Good will hit theaters on November 21, 2025, nearly a year after the first film, which attracted audiences and earned $750 million globally, becoming the highest-grossing Broadway adaptation of all time.
Earlier this week, fans celebrated when the first poster for the film surfaced at CinemaCon. It shows Elphaba and Glinda facing each other from opposite cliffs, separated by the iconic yellow brick road and the Emerald City in the valley below.
A Legendary Story Reimagined
Based on the 2003 Broadway hit (and the novel by Gregory Maguire), the films tell the untold story of the witches of Oz before Dorothy ever landed there.
Directed by Jon M. Chu from a screenplay by Dana Fox and Winnie Holzman, and with music by Stephen Schwartz, Wicked: For Good continues the journey of friendship, fate, and fighting the system.
