Tory Lanez Hospitalized After Being Stabbed in Prison

Rapper Tory Lanez, whose real name is Daystar Peterson, was stabbed multiple times on Monday morning at the California Correctional Institution in Tehachapi, according to law enforcement officials.

The attack happened around 7:20 a.m. in a prison yard. Lanez was reportedly stabbed by another inmate, the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation (CDCR) confirmed in a statement.

Staff immediately responded, activated 911, and began medical aid,” said Pedro Calderón Michel, CDCR deputy press secretary. “Peterson was transported to an outside medical facility for further treatment.

Multiple Wounds and Collapsed Lungs, Reps Say

In a post on Instagram, Lanez’s representatives said the 31-year-old was stabbed 14 times, including:

  • 7 wounds to his back
  • 4 to his torso
  • 2 to the back of his head
  • 1 to the left side of his face

The post also claimed that both of Lanez’s lungs collapsed, and he had to be placed on a breathing machine. As of Monday afternoon, reps said he was breathing on his own, talking, and in good spirits.

He is deeply thankful to God that he is pulling through,” the statement read. “He also wants to thank everyone for their continued prayers and support.

Investigation Underway

The prison’s Investigative Services Unit and the Kern County District Attorney’s Office have launched an investigation into the incident. While the CDCR did not comment on Lanez’s condition, TMZ reported that the injuries are not considered life-threatening.

Reps for Lanez have not issued additional updates, and authorities have not released details about the attacker.

Serving 10 Years for Megan Thee Stallion Shooting

Lanez is currently serving a 10-year sentence after being convicted in 2022 of shooting hip-hop star Megan Thee Stallion during an argument in 2020. According to prosecutors, Lanez yelled “dance, bitch” before firing at Megan’s feet as she exited a vehicle in the Hollywood Hills.

The high-profile trial drew international attention and intense online debate. Megan has since spoken about the public backlash, telling Women’s Health last year:

A lot of people didn’t treat me like I was human for a long time.

Lanez Recently Announced New Music

Despite his incarceration, Lanez released an album titled Peterson in March. Last week, he teased a follow-up project called Slutty Bass, describing it as a blend of “Alone at Prom + Miami Bass + Alvin and the Monk$ + slutty dark rnb vibes.

The timeline for the album’s release is unclear following Monday’s stabbing.
