Xiallong Wang, a New Yorker, was arrested in Wolcott, Connecticut, on suspicion of defrauding a local resident of $60,000 through a bitcoin scam. The victim was coerced into investing in gold through a website that claimed to be able to turn cash into cryptocurrency by a woman who chatted with him in an attempt to develop an online romance. When Wang, 28, showed up at the victim’s home to pick up additional money, he was taken into custody. Wang was discovered to be in the United States with a student visa that had expired.
