According to news reports, Alice Walton regains her seat as the world’s richest woman for 2024 and places her at an estimated worth of more than $95 billion. That left Walton the new head of the charts above Francoise Bettencourt Meyers who briefly earned the title after turning out to be the first woman in history to ever breach a net worth of $100 billion. Changes in the stock market, however, plummeted the fortune of Meyers going forward.

Walmart, which continues to be the biggest retailer in the world and has led Fortune 500 rankings since 2001, is the primary source of Walton’s fortune. Rich, though, his passion for the business life had little to do with running Walmart and much more to do with philanthropy and the arts. She has donated billions to family philanthropic foundations and founded organizations like the Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art and the Alice L. Walton Foundation, striving to enhance art access for education and health.

Her new wealth can be attributed to a 44% increase in the value of Walmart shares, which has solidified the retail giant’s position above all others within the marketplace. Walton and her brothers ensure that the family retains control of the retail behemoth through holding significant portions of Walmart shares through the family holding company called Walton Enterprises.
