When Anthony Davis made his Dallas Mavericks debut it began with a strong performance before an injury cut short his night after their 112-104 win over the Houston Rockets on Sunday.
The blockbuster trade acquisition of Davis from the Los Angeles Lakers allowed him to immediately show his presence after his arrival. Within his 28 minutes on the court, Davis produced 22 points with 10 rebounds and three blocks that showcased his dual defensive and offensive talents which represented what Dallas needed to win a championship. During the third quarter with less than five minutes remaining on the clock, K. Davis tried to block a shot while landing improperly and quickly grabbed his injured right ankle.
Medical personnel assisted him to leave and he remained out for the rest of the game. After the match, Mavericks head coach Jason Kidd gave an oversight about the game but avoided guessing about the injury magnitude. The team will need to wait for diagnosis results yet everyone hopes the injury conditions are minor according to coach Kidd. The Mavericks depend on Davis’ current form at a high level to achieve long-term success while maintaining his health.
Dončić along with Irving took over the win while Davis was out of the line-up. During the game, Dončić achieved 30 points by doing twelve assists and making nine rebounds together with Irving’s performance that provided 24 points and six assists. During the first half,f Davis led the Maverick’s defense to limit Houston to 42% field goal accuracy.
Houston controlled the game with Jalen Green’s 27 points throughout most of the match but Dallas showed their experienced maturity in the finale to secure victory. Rockets head coach Ime Udoka congratulated Davis for his significant impact before he sustained the injury. The game completely changed because of his defensive and offensive plays. According to Udoka the Mavericks displayed another level of performance while Davis was on the court.
The Mavericks remain tense as they anticipate Davis’ medical test results which are scheduled for Monday. The quick recovery of minor injuries would allow him to preserve his ongoing bond with Don ić and Irving while resuming the game. The Mavericks need to worry about their championship plans because Davis has faced health problems in the past.
The Mavericks successfully won the game yet the future depends on Davis’ medical situation since they face stiff competition in the Western Conference.
