A routine American Airlines flight turned chaotic on March 5, when Asterius Rulamka, a Texas resident, allegedly assaulted fellow passengers and threatened a flight attendant before landing in Washington, D.C. The disturbance aboard American Eagle Flight 5574 resulted in injuries and felony charges against the suspect.

Mid-Air Assault and Passenger Panic

According to federal authorities, Rulamka became aggressive as the flight prepared for landing. Witnesses reported that he attacked a flight attendant and encouraged other passengers to record the incident.

When Rulamka noticed he was being filmed, he allegedly lashed out, grabbing another passenger by the arms, verbally abusing him, and punching him in the face, causing visible bruising and a bloodshot eye.

The violence escalated further when he attempted to strike the flight attendant again. Although the attack did not land fully, the attendant suffered a small cut on one finger and broke a fingernail in the scuffle.

Swift Law Enforcement Response

Upon landing at Ronald Reagan National Airport, law enforcement immediately arrested Rulamka. Reports indicate that during an FBI interview, he made bizarre statements, including a request to speak with former President Donald Trump.

Rulamka now faces felony charges for assaulting and wounding passengers and crew. He is scheduled to appear in court on Thursday. The FBI declined to provide additional details, citing an ongoing investigation.

Airline and Industry Response

American Airlines strongly condemned the attack, stating:

“We do not tolerate violence on our flights. We appreciate our team members for their professionalism in handling this incident.”

This incident is part of a growing trend of unruly passenger behavior, raising serious concerns for airline safety and crew protection.
