Colorado is marking its Weatherization Day by opening federally sponsored programs to power up people’s homes. The programs, funded with money through the Inflation Reduction Act, will see Colorado citizens able to seek rebates for energy efficiency appliances and home improvements emphasizing the decrease of fossil fuel use for heating and cooking.
This program provides rebates on high-efficiency electric appliances, such as heat pumps-those being most effective when the climate is cold-heat pump water heaters, and induction cooktops. Rebates vary dramatically between households with varying income. Low- and moderate-income households qualify for larger monetary incentives. Low-income residences may receive up to $8,000 for new heat pump installations to be installed and begin weening off gas-based systems.
It is mainly administered by the Colorado Energy Office, which would take most rebate applications. The Colorado rebates stack with other state and local incentives that can be received in conjunction with these; for example, Xcel Energy rebates offer for home upgrades such as charging stations for EVs, heat pumps, among other home upgrades. Also, heat pumps are exempted from the state sales tax, and there’s also low-interest financing offered on energy upgrades through the Colorado RENU Loan program.
The eligibility and application guidelines are available at the Colorado Energy Office and local utilities, such as Xcel. This way, Colorado residents will have a means of reducing both their carbon footprint and energy costs.
