Ford Motor Company unveiled the Mustang GTD Spirit of America Edition at the Detroit Auto Show. This special edition is a tribute to the original 1964 Mustang and American speed pioneer Craig Breedlove, who built “Spirit of America” land speed vehicles.
Performance Race Red and Lightning draws attention to the white painted body. The blue racing stripes also bring to mind the red, white, and blue tribar used first in 1964 and even remind one of the costume that Breedlove wore in the early 1960 record-breaking runs.
The Mustang GTD is the most powerful street-legal Mustang ever built, with a supercharged 5.2-liter V8 engine producing over 800 horsepower. It boasts advanced aerodynamics, such as a DRS system to adjust the front flaps and rear wing to optimize airflow for downforce and speed to improve performance in all situations.
The interior is characterized by Black Onyx leather-trimmed seats with Dinamica inserts and a Race Red gradient stripe, complemented by Re-Entry White trimmings and Victory Blue contrast stitching. Other optional features include 3D-printed titanium paddle shifters and instrument panel badges.
Production of the Mustang GTD Spirit of America Edition is scheduled to start in early 2025. The price will be announced later. The base GTD model will have a starting price of around $325,000. Delivery is expected in the first half of the year.
