Miami, FL- Sunday evening during the Miami Dolphins match, wide receiver Grant DuBose was hospitalized after suffering a heavy blow to his head during the third quarter. DuBose had been heading for a reception when he ran into a defender and then staggered and fell on the field.
Medical personnel ran onto the field as DuBose remained still for a few minutes. Teàmesmates and opponents alike rushed over the still form, worry expressed on their faces while those watching in the stands, seemingly in stunned silence. When examined on the field, he was placed on a stretcher before being taken away in the ambulance to the local hospital where further examination could take place.
The Dolphins issued a statement right after the game, stating that DuBose was being treated for an alleged head injury but was alert and responsive upon arrival in the hospital. “Grant DuBose is being medically evaluated. He is conscious and has movement in all extremities. We are focusing on his health and well-being,” said the team.
Head coach Mike McDaniel addressed the media post-game, expressing optimism while acknowledging the seriousness of the situation. “It’s always tough to see a player go down like that. Our medical team responded quickly, and right now, we’re just keeping Grant and his family in our thoughts,” McDaniel said.
Again, the injury has revitalized discussions about player safety, most noticeably, head trauma and concussive injuries within the NFL. Some players have received harsh penalties; however, more seriously injured players like DuBose demonstrate the dangers players go through on the field each time.
Rookie wide receiver DuBose is promising, with athleticism and work ethic drawing praise. His teammates wished him well on the field. “Grant is a fighter,” said Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa, who knows something about head injuries after being hurt a few years ago when he was with Alabama during his freshman year.
Fans and other players around the league have flooded social media with get-well messages, many wishing DuBose a speedy recovery. Dolphins have promised to keep everybody posted as they find out more.
Meanwhile, the team and fans keep their fingers crossed as the man gets more assessments and tests done.
