Recently, the Biden-Harris Administration gave the computer corporation Intel about $3 billion in financing under the CHIPS and Science Act.

Through the CHIPS and Science Act, Intel Corporation received up to $3 billion in support from the Biden-Harris Administration in 2024. The grant supports Intel’s “Secure Enclave” program, focusing on making investments into the production of cutting-edge semiconductors and secure microelectronics intended for the U.S. government. This program is one of the key factors that highlight Intel’s involvement in securing the domestic chip supply chain because it further collaborates with the DoD for achieving technological resiliency within national security systems.

The financing of Intel is part of a wider U.S. government effort to improve homegrown semiconductor capabilities, as the CHIPS and Science Act has shown. It has put plenty of money on the table for a number of companies to move beyond reliance on foreign production of chips and accelerate technological growth in the U.S. Its activities in initiatives like Rapid Assured Microelectronics Prototypes-Commercial (RAMP-C) and State-of-the-Art Heterogeneous Integration Prototype (SHIP) were crucial for the development of more advanced semiconductor technologies on which the U.S. government could impose very stringent security requirements.

The most advanced technologies of Intel promise to continue the leading position in the field of semiconductor manufacturing, and mass production of the Intel 18A is planned to begin in 2025. This program speaks to innovations in chip technology by Intel but also represents the continuation of collaboration by the company with significant defense and commercial partners in support of a wide range of critical systems and applications.
