In his latest Netflix special, actor Jamie Foxx shares his terrifying experience of surviving a stroke and brain hemorrhage. His recovery story—from a coma to relearning fundamental functions—is a tribute to fortitude, faith, and family support.
Finally, Jamie Foxx is opening up about the horrific health crisis that almost ended his life in 2023. In Jamie Foxx: What Had Happened Was, his Netflix comedy special, the Oscar-winning actor walks viewers through his near-death experience and incredible comeback.
While filming a movie in Atlanta in April 2023, Foxx’s ordeal started. As they collaborated with medical professionals to save his life, his family led by his sister Diedra Dixon and daughter Corinne Dixon kept specifics confidential. Foxx spent 20 days in a coma after what started off as a “medical complication” turned out to be a brain hemorrhage that resulted in a stroke.
“I was unable to walk when I woke up,” Foxx remarked. The path ahead appeared difficult because they were wheelchair-bound and incapable of handling simple duties. He could heal, according to the doctors, but it would require perseverance and resolve.
Foxx battled to reclaim his freedom, finding strength in his faith and family. He shows how far he’s come by singing, dancing, and playing the piano in his presentation, which highlights both his struggles and his victories.
“He was in fine form, and I’m glad he got to tell his story on his own terms,” said Gayle King, who was present at one of the tapings in Atlanta.
More than just a tale of survival, Foxx’s journey is a celebration of fortitude and the strength of love and tenacity. He is encouraging audiences to value life and the individuals who support them throughout their worst moments by being honest and humorous.
