A Japan Airlines plane bumped the tail of a parked Delta Air Lines aircraft while taxiing at Seattle-Tacoma International Airport. Nobody was injured but passengers were deplaned. The accident follows increasing fears for air safety with recent crashes in Philadelphia and Washington, D.C.

Passengers at Seattle-Tacoma International Airport Wednesday morning were shocked by an unusual collision: A Japan Airlines plane, while taxiing, collided with the tail of a Delta Air Lines plane that was parked.

An incident happened between the airport’s S concourse and south maintenance hangars, the authorities report. According to a local report, it was close to 10 a.m. and, amazingly, there were no casualties in this event, with the Japan Airlines flight’s passengers deplaned safely to the terminal.

Japan Airlines released an apology stating, “We sincerely apologize to all involved for any inconvenience. The detailed cause and circumstances are currently under investigation.”

Seattle airport officials assured that the incident caused only minimal flight operations. Still, this incident is part of a growing trend of concern for aviation safety in the U.S., with two major crashes in the past week.

A catastrophic plane and helicopter crash near Washington, D.C. last Tuesday killed 67 people as crews recovered wreckage from the Potomac River.

Then on Friday, a medical transport plane crashed in Northeast Philadelphia, killing six passengers and one person on the ground.

This was a minor collision in Seattle as compared to such tragedies, and it calls for further vigilance in aviation safety.

The cause of the accident and whether precautionary measures must be taken so that such occurrences do not recur are being established by investigators at this time.
