Netflix is officially bringing Scooby-Doo back. Netflix has announced the premise for its upcoming live-action Scooby-Doo series, which will be a modern reimagining of the classic mystery-solving gang’s origin story.
The show will follow a younger version of Mystery Inc., giving fans a look at how the iconic crew first came together and the creepy case that started it all. Reportedly, this live-action series will have 8 Episodes.
A Supernatural Summer Mystery
The eight-episode drama is set during the group’s last summer at camp. According to the official logline, old friends Shaggy and Daphne find themselves wrapped up in a spooky mystery involving a lonely Great Dane puppy, who may have witnessed a supernatural murder.
They team up with Velma, described as a “pragmatic and scientific townie,” and a mysterious new arrival — Freddy, who’s called “strange, but ever so handsome.” Together, the four teenagers work to solve the case, which slowly begins to unravel their deepest secrets and drag them into a shared nightmare.

A Creative Team with Mystery Credentials
The series is produced by Greg Berlanti, best known for his work on Riverdale, Chilling Adventures of Sabrina, and The CW’s Arrowverse. Showrunners Josh Appelbaum (From, Citadel) and Scott Rosenberg (Venom, Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle) are also writing the series. Both are executive producing through their company, Midnight Radio.
“This version of Scooby-Doo captures the original spirit but brings something fresh and thrilling for today’s audience,” said Berlanti, recalling one of his first jobs in Hollywood, sitting with Bill Hanna and Joe Barbera as they signed animation cells.
Netflix’s Push Into Classic Characters
Netflix has been investing heavily in turning nostalgic properties into live-action hits. With major successes like Wednesday, and solid viewership on One Piece and Avatar: The Last Airbender, the streamer is continuing its strategy with one of the most beloved animated franchises of all time.
“We’re excited to bring Scooby-Doo to TV as a live-action series for the first time,” said Peter Friedlander, VP of Scripted Series at Netflix. “It’s rich with universal themes of friendship that generations of fans have long embraced.”
Warner Bros. Television is producing the show, with executive producers from both Berlanti Productions and Midnight Radio. The series is based on characters created by Hanna-Barbera. No official release date has been set, but filming is expected to begin soon.
