Netflix’s hit survival series ‘Squid Game’ returns on June 27 for its highly anticipated third and final season. The newly released trailer hints at a deadly new chapter — with shocking returns and unexpected twists.
The new footage opens in a familiar, chilling fashion. A group of players cautiously approaches a massive black box, identical to the coffins used for fallen contestants in earlier games. The lid creaks open. Inside lies Seong Gi-hun (Lee Jung-jae), the story’s central figure, awakening with the same dazed fear he had when the nightmare began in Season 1.
As he regains consciousness, a towering gumball machine takes center stage. Red and blue balls tumble from its dome, symbolizing the next deadly fate awaiting the contestants.
“Picking up from Season 2’s devastating cliffhanger, Season 3 thrusts Gi-hun (Player 456) back into the brutal heart of the games, determined to dismantle them once and for all,” Netflix revealed in a statement. “Still haunted by the betrayal and loss of his closest ally, Jung-bae (Player 390), Gi-hun faces new perils — including the Front Man, who shockingly infiltrated their rebellion disguised as Player 001.”
Familiar Faces, New Threats
The upcoming season will also see the return of key characters from earlier chapters. Among them: the masked Front Man, rogue detective Hwang Jun-ho, and several surviving players, including Myung-gi (Player 333), Dae-ho (Player 388), Hyun-ju (Player 120), Yong-sik (Player 007), Geum-ja (Player 149), Jun-hee (Player 222), Min-su (Player 125), Nam-gyu (Player 124), and the anonymous pink guard No-eul.
But in a sudden turn, the trailer closes not with carnage, but with a cry. As the screen fades to black, a baby’s wail cuts through the silence. Viewers are left to wonder: Has Kim Jun-hee (Jo Yu-ri) given birth amid the chaos? And what role will this child play in the final round?
With explosive set pieces, unresolved vendettas, and cryptic new symbols, the final season of ‘Squid Game’ promises a finish as brutal and compelling as its beginning.
