The Indiana Fever disappointingly completed their season last night, losing 78-65 to the Connecticut Sun. That end meant the close of a very anticipated first season in the WNBA by Caitlin Clark. Clark’s rookie season has been nothing short of phenomenal and gives a glimpse toward a promising future for the young star and her team.

The Fever didn’t quite know how to bring the consistency throughout the season all locked in for one four-quarter effort of it, especially against the more veteran-laden roster of the Sun here this evening. Clark is one of Indiana’s bright spots during this season so far with an 18-point, 6-assist, and 5-rebound performance as she shows scoring and playmaking chops that make her one of the most exciting new things in this league.

It has been a nice way to play all season, Clark said in his post-game press conference. We are a young team. There is just so much to build on. I think we have only just seen the beginning.

Despite the great play of Clark, who ended the season with a 13-21 record, The Fever simply could not establish a foothold. The team comes across as young and inexperienced at times as they struggle through injuries and growing pains. Even head coach Christie Sides remains optimistic about the direction of the team.

Caitlin has been amazing for us, not only with her talent but also with her leadership,” Sides said. “We knew this season would be a challenge, but we’ve seen a lot of growth, and I’m excited about what’s ahead.”.

As the Fever are entering the offseason, their focus would be putting together a core around Clark, who is going to be the mainstay of the franchise for a long time. With another high draft pick and some cap space, Indiana has the chance to make its roster much stronger and make an effort at the playoffs for the 2025 season.

But for now, at least, the Fever and their fans will take one last look back at Clark’s excellent debut and look ahead to what there is in store for the blossoming star and her young, talented team.
