Supermodel and TV personality Tyra Banks has spoken for the first time about the emotional moment she lost her Los Angeles home due to the catastrophic wildfires tearing parts of California. Celebrated for her stellar career and works associated with *America’s Next Top Model*, the supermodel made this shocking revelation to the Australian morning show *Sunrise*.
An emotionally distraught Tyra broke her silence on the terrible incident and expressed that it was really tough for her to believe the destruction of her property. “It’s tough,” she said, breaking as she spoke of the home she’d built with her family. According to Tyra, material loss is indeed painful, though much less as compared to emotional loss. Still, she seemed relieved that she and her family, which includes partner Louis Bélanger-Martin, were all safe.
Some of the saddest stories out of California this season are of its residents, both normal citizens and celebrities, coping with loss because of the ongoing wildfires. Tyra joins a cast of public figures who have lost homes in the fire, such as actors and social influencers who also took to their various platforms with similarly harrowing stories of survival and loss. The wildfires, now fueled by weeks of drought and extreme heat affecting the region, have been destructive in several parts of Los Angeles and Malibu. This has turned their effects once more toward climate change and the increased occurrence of such calamities.
Tyra suffered a personal loss, one more emotional than property loss. She described how that uncertainty and losing everything were rather difficult to go through. A lot of huge memories were found in the home, including ones with her family and the feel of security there. “It’s not the house; that’s just wood and nails-a home is where you create your life,” she noted, talking of the memories burnt in the flames.
While completely devastated, Tyra sent out her message of thanks for all the love coming her way through well-wishers, friends, and everyone else around. She said she was amazed at how strong people can get when in trouble, and that is when a person realizes just how strong the bonds really are. The supermodel felt blessed that her loved ones were spared from the destruction all around.
Bringing personal attention to the wildfires but also calling greater attention to the broader issue that is climate change, Tyra spoke out for all to take a fire incident more seriously than they are: “It’s so important that we all recognize the magnitude of these fires and the devastation they leave in their wake, Tyra told Page Six over the phone Sunday.
But Tyra’s story of survival and resilience is but one of many who were affected by the fires. Now, she and her family begin rebuilding, and hopefully, according to her, the strength in all these communities will be able to bring them out from this huge loss. Still emotional after losing a home, the message of Tyra is one of perseverance, gratitude, and how important it is to be with one another during such adversities.
