A 62-year-old New York visitor was swept out to sea Tuesday and died at Kauapea Beach on the North Shore of Kauai.
He was found unconscious in the sea, and this marks the third Hawaiian visitor to be killed in the ocean in as short a week.
The Kauai Police Department reported that around 11:15 a.m., responders were called to the area, but onlookers were already starting CPR on the man.
The man was pronounced dead in a neighboring hospital after firefighters took over and used state-of-the-art resuscitation equipment.
There is no suspicion of foul play; however, the police are continuing with the autopsy.
This is the second recent event. Last week, Bryan Kunic, 63-year-old man from California, was killed on the North Shore of Oahu after he got swept out to sea by a rogue wave.
Two days earlier, a 72-year-old woman named Laura Sue Jett and her daughter were swept out to sea in a similar manner. On Monday, Jett died still in critical condition.
Like most beaches in Hawaii, Kauapea Beach is an unattended beach and the local authorities always caution visitors to swim only on beaches with lifeguards. Unbeknownst to tourists, their waters can be quite unpredictable for Hawaii with powerful currents and changing tides. As a result, tourists are constantly at risk.
